How to unlock Ashes of War
To unlock this feature, you have to go to the Gate front Ruins when you are at the beginning of the Elden Ring. This is where you can get the key item called Whetstone Knife. Whetstone Knife will let you equip Ashes of War. So you will be able to apply this feature to certain parts of your gear like shields or weapons.
When you reach your destination, you need to look for a crypt. It is near the middle of the Gate Front Ruins. In particular, you need to find two enemies with dogs. If you can figure out how to sneak in there, you can go down to the crypt without alerting them of your presence. It’s very hard to sneak in so go ahead and fight them.
Under the crypt, you will see a chest. The Whetstone Knife is here. Inside the chest, you will find the key item that unlocks it. Once you have the Whetstone Knife, go to any Site of Grace and you will see the new feature called Ashes of War.
