Players are experiencing massive frame drops, stuttering, and even crashes with the next-gen version of The Witcher 3. CD Projekt Red wants to fix some of these issues with this new update.
The hotfix is around 2 GB in size depending on your platform and will only be available on PC. CD Projekt Red says it will improve overall stability and performance and won’t change the game version.
“We’ve just released a hotfix for The Witcher 3 on PC, which should improve the overall stability and performance, and fix GOG & Steam overlays. The game version won’t change. Our teams are working on further improving the experience on all platforms.” CD Projekt said in a statement on Twitter.
There are no proper patch notes, but it looks like there are performance improvements here. GOG and Steam overlays are definitely fixed. Players can use Steam overlays in The Witcher 3. Some players report noticing a few more FPS in some areas. Getting a few extra FPS is a good outcome for most players. It seems that players are reporting fewer crashes after this update. They are also reporting less stuttering following this hotfix.
This update seems to be a quick optimization by CD Projekt Red. Although it improves overall stability and performance, some major bugs remain after the fix. The foliage disappearing bug still seems to be present. Gamers using AMD graphics cards still report some degree of stuttering.
The Witcher 3’s next-gen update was released last week and brings Netflix skins, prettier graphics, new quests, and more.
