Sega has released a new job posting seeking a video game developer with network game production experience. The job posting was posted in an official Sega category on www.hrmos.co, a recruitment site similar to Indeed. It mentions action game development experience with Unreal Engine 4 and P2P online battles like PVP. We wonder if this is related to a new Sonic game with online multiplayer.
This job posting could be related to the Olympic video game series that Sega first introduced in 1992. Because at the bottom of the listing page there is a link to the Olympic Games website. However, the job posting also includes a link to the Sonic the Hedgehog page. So it could be related to a few different things, and the Sonic the Hedgehog title is definitely one of them.
The Question: What Could This Game Be?
There are three or four possibilities of what the game could be. Sega may be expanding the Sonic Frontiers team to develop Sonic Frontiers 2. The original game has sold more than 2.5 million copies worldwide since its launch.
It’s very unlikely to be a Mario & Sonic at The Olympic game. Because the job posting mentions Windows and Steam.
It could also be something completely different, like a game related to some kind of spin-off Sonic project. There is speculation that Sega is working on a modern 2D Sonic game. But this is just a rumor. There is no confirmation about it other than the information provided by a leaker named Zippo.
Sega is looking for a developer who must have experience developing high-end games for platforms such as PS4, Xbox, Switch, and PC. Based on this job requirement, it appears that this will be a game destined for a number of video game platforms.
A Sonic game developed on the Unreal Engine is also a big deal because Sega normally uses the Hedgehog Engine to build its Sonic games.
Whatever this game is, we’ll probably find out the details very soon.
